DOCUMENTATION:
MAKING OUR WORK AND THE CHILDREN'S VISIBLE
Also
from Reggio Emilia:
For people who work with children ages 6 weeks and up
Using my own documentation
(photos, examples of children's and teacher's work, from Italy,
US and Canada, drawings, and more) we examine what taking the time
and energy to represent what goes on in our classrooms can mean
to our relationships with children, colleagues, parents, and the
larger community. We look at systems for making the work happen
. . . including elements of documentation in Reggio Emilia.
Documentation can support
home-school relationships, can help children build upon previous
experience, and can help the teacher learn a habit of reflection
upon his/her work. For all these reasons, the transparency
of the program which results from making documentation panels is
most valuable. I believe that the door into the Reggio Emilia
work is best opened by beginning to document what you do and want
others to know about.
This work supports portfolio
evaluation, project work, children's self-esteem, adult attention
to process, and the fundamental growth of adults who work
with children.
